OCEAN CRUISE

What we did
These two days at sea settled into an easy, familiar rhythm; exactly the kind of pace we’ve come to love on a cruise. Mornings began with lively rounds of Mahjong with fellow passengers and an engaging lecture titled “Welcome to Africa – Not What You Would Expect,” which offered plenty of thought-provoking insights. We each found our own ways to stay active: Amy spent time in the fitness center, while Tom made a daily ritual of walking laps around the deck, soaking in the endless ocean views. As always, the food was a highlight. March 17th brought a festive twist for Saint Patrick’s Day, with the ship hosting a special lunch in the World Cafe featuring hearty Irish classics and plenty of beer to match. That evening, we enjoyed dinner with Gisela and Jeff from South Carolina at the Casual Restaurant. Great company paired with great food. The second night was something truly special: a hands-on cooking class held in an intimate space known as “The Kitchen,” tucked behind the specialty restaurants on Deck One. With just eight participants, we worked closely with Sous Chef Joseph and Tatenda, who guided us through preparing an unforgettable meal. We rolled up our sleeves to help create a rich and comforting pho ga (chicken noodle soup) and a perfectly cooked soy-glazed flank steak. Dessert was a caramel tapioca mousse paired with a ginger cookie, a sweet finish to an already incredible evening. Best of all, we were given the recipes, and recreating that pho at home is now high on our list; it was that delicious.
