We then took a city bus about a half an hour south to Untersberg as they have a cable car that goes up to the top. Amy‘s phone measured an elevation of over 5,800 feet. It was the perfect day to go although a bit hazy as it is quite warm here and being up high on the mountain was very refreshing. There were breathtaking 360 views. While up there Tom enjoyed a beer and elderflower soda while Amy had a glass of Austrian wine. Tip of the day, look into purchasing a Salzburg card (https://www.salzburg.info/en/hotels-offers/salzburg-card). we purchased a 24 hour card for 34 euros each which paid for the buses, the catacomb, the Monchsberg elevator and cable car. It also provides free entrance to other museums around town.

Amy then met up with Tom at the Edelweis cooking school, which is also in a building that is carved into Mönchsberg. There, we met several American groups while making apple strudel and nockrl which is a famous soufflé like dessert from this region. While these two desserts were baking, we were given a bowl of beef goulash soup, which was fantastic. All in all a terrific excursion.

After a bit of a rest in the afternoon, we made reservations and had dinner at the Brau restaurant which is located in the other Imlauer hotel one block away. We had a wonderful meal, Amy had cheese Spaetzle with salad, Tom also had a small salad with Wiener schnitzel and onion rings! We also split a sacher tort for dessert.

Salzburg is a very walkable city, and everywhere we looked, it was postcard beautiful. Our expectations of Salzburg were far surpassed; we would love to come back here again and do more exploration into things like the ice caves and the Mozart houses .
