What we did
On the night of 1/23 we crossed the international date line and went to bed Friday night and woke up Sunday morning. It's a weird felling being a day ahead of home.
The days have been filled with Mahjong, walks, lots of reading and lectures. We have also continued teaching others on how to play cribbage.
There have been a few more sea birds flying near the ship. We attended a lecture on Pelagic Birds. Pelagic birds are specialized seabirds that spend most of their lives on the open ocean, far from land, only coming ashore to breed on remote islands or cliffs. We also attended a stairwell tour of the history of the Bayeux tapestry. All of the stairwells in the ship have magnified reproductions of the tapestry. The Bayeux Tapestry is a nearly 70-meter (230 ft) long yet only about 20 inches tall and consists of embroidered linen cloth depicting the events leading to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, culminating in the Battle of Hastings. This was a very interesting talk and we are hoping to see the actual tapestry in London in October before we go on our next cruise as it will be on loan to the British museum while it's normal location is being refurbished in France.
Tomorrow we arrive in our first port in New Zealand!
