Day 15 - Passu Germany

Our last day of the river cruise

We docked a few miles outside of Passau and had to be bussed to the city center. We learned that many Viking ships west of Passau had to be bussed to Passau due to water levels which may be the cause for boat congestion in this town. This is a small city with a population of 54,000. It regularly experiences floods and had markings on a building depicting the larger ones, the last major one was in 2013 with water levels reading 9.9 meters when normal levels are 2.9 meters and high water level warnings begin at 6.2.

After the walking tour, we were ambitious and climbed 288 steps ( not paces but actual steps) to reach the Veste Oberhausen, built in 1219 that provided beautiful views. Passau means “three rivers” and you can actually see the color differences as they merge. The other rivers are the Inn and Ilc. After, we caught 2 busses to return to the ship.

After lunch we napped and read as it’s our last day on the ship. We had an enjoyable dinner with friends we’ve made in this trip and were the last ones to leave the dining room.
