What we did
We woke up this morning in Greenwich, having arrived quietly in the wee hours of the morning, at around 3:30 am. Because of the ship’s smaller size, we were able to sail up the River Thames and dock right in the heart of the city, an experience that felt incredibly special.
We joined a walking tour that took us through some of Greenwich’s most iconic sights, including the Cutty Sark ( a historic clipper ship), a lively local market, the National Maritime Museum, and the Royal Observatory, home of the Prime Meridian. We also passed the Queen’s House and the Old Royal Naval College. It is truly a beautiful place to explore on foot, with history around every corner.
After the tour, we spent some time inside the Maritime Museum before heading to the Trafalgar Tavern for lunch. There, we happened to run into Miles and Cindy and ended up joining them. Miles ordered the fish and chips and declared it one of the best he has ever had. Tom went with a buffalo chicken sandwich and a Murphy stout, while Amy enjoyed a delicious goat cheese tart with sautéed spinach and pine nuts, paired with a glass of white wine.
We wandered a bit more before making our way back to the ship. Getting there was easy thanks to a quick three minute ride on an Uber Boat along the Thames. Once onboard, we enjoyed a restful afternoon filled with sudoku, a short nap, and catching up on our travel blog.
At 4 pm, we headed up to the Winter Garden for afternoon tea, which was a lovely treat. Amy chose a cinnamon Ceylon tea, while Tom opted for a spiced chai. Afterward, we returned to our room to continue packing.
Although we were not very hungry for dinner, we stopped by the World Cafe in hopes of seeing a few friends to say goodbye. We ran into Dean and Julie and spent some time chatting with them while they ate. Later, we all went down to enjoy a special destination performance by Libera, a British boys choir. It was a fantastic show and a perfect way to close out the cruise.
Back in our room, we finished packing and placed our suitcases in the hallway. After a few final goodbyes, we made our way to the Explorer’s Lounge for one last cocktail, soaking in the views of the city and relaxing by the fireplace.
This has truly been the adventure of a lifetime so far, and it is difficult to fully capture what this journey has meant to us. We feel incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity and the health to experience it all. Thank you for following along with us around the world.
