Vienna, Austria’s capital, lies in the country’s east on the Danube River. Its artistic and intellectual legacy was shaped by residents including Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud. The city is also known for its Imperial palaces, including Schönbrunn, the Habsburgs’ summer residence. In the MuseumsQuartier district, historic and contemporary buildings display works by Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt and other artists.

We had a wonderful mixed bus/walking tour of the city. It turned out that it was a holiday so stores were closed but museums and cafes were open. Alter our tour we went to the Sachet hotel to sample a piece of Sacher cake that Amy has been waiting 30 years to return and try. Yum!

We ended up doing a behind the scenes tour of the Opera house. This was very informative and a great look at this impressive building. We then ended up taking the subway back to our shop to finish the day before departing for our next city.
