What we did
We savored two of our final three sea days on the cruise, easing into a calm and easy rhythm. Mornings were devoted to mahjong, while afternoons were filled with games of Azul and cribbage with Julie and Dean and laps around the deck. In between, we managed to fit in a nap or two, which made the days feel wonderfully restful.
On the 21st, we marked Amy’s birthday with a special dinner at Manfredi’s, celebrating her return to good health. It was a relaxed and enjoyable gathering with our new friends; Nancy and Larry Aldridge, along with Julie and Dean Curtis.
Our stop in Tenerife was delightful. We began the day with a whale watching excursion on a catamaran, where we saw numerous pilot whales swimming surprisingly close to our boat. Pilot whales are part of the dolphin family and they are quite large, second only to orcas. The excursion included some yummy snacks, chicken paella for lunch with sangria, yum! Soon after returning to our ship, we took the complimentary shuttle into Santa Cruz to pick up a few necessities and then walked back leisurely to our ship. It felt refreshing to be back in a modern city that was clean, welcoming. It felt like we were in Spain already.
