First Impressions
It was like seeing an old friend. We traveled on the Viking Sky in December of 2024. The staff are all very welcoming and helpful.
What we did
We checked out of our hotel and took an Uber to the port. We arrived at 11:17am and before 11:30am we were on board, having a glass of sparkling wine while watching a safety video! We then began reacquainting ourselves with the ship. We chatted with some people we've met so far and made some dinner reservations for specialty dining. We also stopped at guest services to find out about how to stow our medications and signed up for a cooking class later this week. We have some medications that require refrigeration and at 5pm Tom was escorted to the medical center where they will keep them for us throughout the trip. While having lunch in the World Cafe at 1:30pm they announced that our rooms were ready and we spent over an hour unpacking and organizing. We were quite pleased that even though we brought a lot, we managed to find a place for everything. We met our cabin steward Yudi. He and Henry will be assisting us. Yudi has already made a very positive impression on us, getting us a few items like more hangers immediately. At 5:15pm we went up to the pool deck for a few speeches and another glass of champagne to kick off this glorious voyage. We then dined in the "The Restaurant" and had a wonderful first dinner. Tom had the roasted carrot soup and Amy a ceasar salad for the first course and both enjoyed the Chicken Kiev for the main entree. We split a "new St. Honore" for desert which was quite playful and eye catching. The nice thing about meals on Viking is the portions are not large so over eating at "The Restaurant" is rarely a concern.
After dinner, we were quite tired turning in before 8:30pm. It's been a long journey just to get to the start of this one and the rest was much needed.
Meet the ship
Our photo gallery today includes many pictures of some of the public spaces as well as our cabin.
